Ideas for holidays, weekends and trips in Sedan and its surroundings
One of Sedan’s most famous attractions is its castle, which stands tall over the town at 30,000m 2. It dates back to the medieval period of the 15th century, and is a magnificent architectural and historical sight. Then, why not head to Sedan’s wonderful botanical gardens, which date back to the 19th century and are full of some of the most beautiful greenery in the region. If you’re in Sedan in May, you should also check out the town’s annual medieval festival, which is a truly special occasion and an amazing sight to behold.
A marionette festival is also held in nearby Charleville-Mézières, which is home to the Rimbaud museum, dedicated to the life and work of the poet Arthur Rimbaud, who was from the town. It is beautifully housed in an old water mill. For guests wishing to travel further afield to the closest city of Reims, the Palace of Tau is an amazing sight that is not to be missed. Visitors should also try and see Saint Remi basilica, which is a superb demonstration of religious architecture and grandeur. Or alternatively, head to Reims cathedral, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. Whatever you decide to do during your time in the Ardennes, be sure to book your stay at the Campanile Sedan to make it a truly memorable visit.
